Virus Malayalam Movie Review
The theatre was buzzing with people from all walks of life, I saw many family members, youngsters, couples, LGBTQ allies, and students all patiently waiting for the movie to begin.
As the credits began, the makers had thanked everyone involved in the incident of Nipah at Kozhikode. Just when the name of K K Shailaja Teacherrolled on the screen, people started clapping with immense joy. One of the members of the audience made sure the clap was meant to her and not Pinarayi Vijayan whose name too was shown. I then realized how political we are even in a movie theatre.
Along with the opening credits of the movie, the activities at Kozhikode Medical college was shown from the perspective of a doctor. I really loved how they portrayed a medical college scene with such detail. The opening credits ended with director Aashiq Abu’s name displayed on the left of the screen.
This must be the first movie in Malayalam industry which showcased the importance of a doctor qualified in Community Medicine. very few people take the courage to pursue a career in the stream and I am sure the movie will inspire a lot of young doctors to do so. The makers of the movie chose to show the movie from each characters eye, this is something I really loved. For a minute, it reminded me of the movie, Vantage Point.
I was amazed at how the director and makers managed to assemble such a star cast for the movie, those who missed out to get even a minutes role will curse themselves in the days to come. Everyone played their part. If you aren’t paying attention to the movie, you would miss out on many who are part of the movie. The movie does discuss a political angle but doesn’t go overboard with it and hence the movie can never be tagged as propaganda. It showed with raw content on how an entire district went through in its darkest days.
The movie ended with a government function announcing the control of Nipah virus. The speech moved everyone in the theatre. It was as if we were the audience to the speech. The movie deserved a standing ovation but we were left completely numb even to clap our hands.
The makers of the movies deserve your presence in the movie theatres.
P.S: Watching Chernobyl and Virus Movie in the same week is a bad idea especially if your zodiac sign is Aries.
