It’s time 9:00 PM on Saturday night, everyone is glued to the TV expecting the candidate list of Lok Sabha constituents in Kerala.
Sources reveal Prof. K V Thomas may not get a ticket for Ernakulam. A city which made him the Union Minister in the second UPA Government. Amidst speculations, the young MLA Hibi Eden gets the ticket to contest against one of the best parliamentarian P. Rajeev.
The only person perhaps shocked was Prof. K V Thomas himself. He wanted to continue his good work for another 5 years, perhaps more. His emotions were unchecked and people in the Congress party was appalled by his response. This is what he had to say
I don’t know what wrong I’ve done. Whatever duty that the party has given me from time to time has been carried out by me in right earnest. So, this has saddened me beyond words. But I am not part of any ‘group’ [faction] within the party. You will know on what basis the seats have been allotted when you get to see the names
He also added being old is not in his problem. For a man who has seen both the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha, his response was immature. He himself was given the parliament ticket in 1984 bypassing the siting UDF MP Xavier Arackal.
What came in support of Hibi Eden was his support by both the factions of Congress. His work as an MLA during the flood relief was widely praised as well. He even took the initiative of building a house for Kripesh who was murdered in Kasargod over political differences. Rahul’s idea of giving the youngsters more opportunities helped as well.
